Laboratory Training

This skill-intensive training will instruct participants on proper capillary sampling for hemoglobin and lead testing utilizing one finger stick.  Accurate hemoglobin testing is important in identifying women, infants and children who may be at risk for iron-deficiency anemia and children at risk for lead poisoning.

In-Person Training

In-person Anthropometric and Laboratory trainings are combined into a 1-day training with Anthro from 8:30-11:45 a.m. and Lab from 12:45-4:00 p.m.

  • Describe MIOSHA requirements and Universal Precautions.
  • Demonstrate competency in laboratory techniques, policies, and procedures. (Competency Checklist provided for in-clinic check-off.)
  • Describe how to properly perform quality controls and demonstrate proper techniques.
  • Discuss proper cleaning and care of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Discuss corrective action plans to take when equipment error codes arise.

This training provides continuing education hours for Nurses.  A Certificate of Attendance with educational hours will be provided for healthcare professionals who can self-report. For questions, contact CEInfo@mphi.org.
