April Is International Cesarean Awareness Month (CAM)

Cesarean section, C-section, or Cesarean birth is the surgical delivery of a baby through a cut (incision) made in the birthing person’s abdomen and uterus. Healthcare providers use it when they believe it is safer for the mother, the baby, or both.

If a person cannot deliver vaginally, a C-section allows the fetus to be delivered surgically. Some birthing parents choose to plan and schedule their Cesarean. Others may have it done because of complications during labor.
