Guiding Principles and Practices: Care for Youth Exhibiting Aggressive Behavior

This training will discuss the impact of aggressive behaviors on youth and their care team, how to conceptualize aggression in youth, the potential risk factors and other contributors, and how to develop a framework for interprofessional assessment and management. The presenters will use specific skill-based teaching that will highlight practical, trauma-informed, and preventive evaluation and intervention delivery for youth who may display aggression. This will include ways to engage and support parents and families in the care of their children. We will conclude by focusing on pharmacologic management guidance, informed by evidence-based guidelines and expert consensus, regarding acute and chronic aggression management. This will be followed by an interdisciplinary community discussion between health care providers and school mental health professionals to foster opportunities for ongoing review and reflection of the concepts shared during the forum.
