National Houseplant Appreciation Day

National Houseplant Appreciation Day

Every year on January 10, National Houseplant Appreciation Day reminds us that plants bring us a touch of nature and beauty into our homes. What better way to liven up your living space than with some house plants? Not only do they make your space feel livelier, but studies also indicate several benefits of keeping a few houseplants around.

Plants can help improve the air quality in your home by converting carbon dioxide into oxygen. This helps us breathe easier and is a great natural remedy for healthier air. Some of the best plants for the job are English Ivy, Mother-in-Law’s Tongue, Peace Lily, and the Spider Plant. Other plants, such as Aloe Vera , have healing properties since it can be harvested to use as a topical natural skin protectant. It’s great to break off a stem when needed to treat sunburns or small cuts. Other practical plant ideas are to grow vegetables inside, so you have a fresh snack all year round. Overall, plants make a great green addition to any space; many hospitals even report quicker recovery, stress reduction, and energy boosting experiences when plants are in the room with patients.

Don’t have a green thumb? That’s okay! There are several hardy plants that require minimal care, such as the Snake Plant, so you don’t have to tend to them regularly. Another option is to invest in a smart planter, so the monitoring and reminders to care for your plant comes right to your phone. Whatever your choice of plant may be, it is sure to bring some beautiful greenery to your space.
